Break-it-downnnn

Ever wonder what's in your jersey pocket or recovery snack. Leave it to Wired to fill you in.

I guess it's not a surprise that training food does not equal health food.

58 pounds of high fructose corn syrup?!!!

Yum!
I only eat Clif & Odwalla Protein bars. I think they're healthier, but only because tehy claim to be "all-matural".

Perhaps my oat sensitivity is for the good. Right now I am alternating between these which are made with "Deglet noor dates, Whey protein isolate, Cocoa powder, Clover honey" (doesn't look so bad) and these which are made with "Organic Dates, Organic Cashews, Organic Sour Cherries, Organic Pomegranate Concentrate" (possibly even better).

And in case you missed it, Clif has joined with Terracycle to recycle old wrappers: "The program, dubbed Wrapper Brigade, invites you to collect energy bar wrappers (any brand), send them in, and receive 2 cents apiece for your designated charity. The collected wrappers will be fused and woven into a strong material for making backpacks, gym totes and other products.". Signup details are here.

a friend of a friend owns this company-- they make custom energy bars. http://www.youbars.com/

check 'em out. hear they are yummy...that is, if you pick yummy stuff! a little pricer, but they are custom for you, plus i think you can put your name on the package.

ewww. I certainly hope I did not eat 58 pounds of high fructose corn syrup this year! I really try to be on the lookout for it and avoid at all costs. I was about to spread some Knotts Berry Farm jam on my bagel at work the other day...saw the evil ingredient on the label and opted for the Smuckers sugar-free instead....

Oh, and a lot of the energy bars have less nutrition and more fat/sugar than Snickers. And they cost more. You really do have to read labels - even on 'health' food.

Yeah, they never say they are healthy. They only say they will fuel you up and I guess that means using the good and the bad to do so.
