You been bikin in France lately?

Dear friendly neighborhood bikers:
For endless thanks and good karma, we'd like to offer you the opportunity to share your best French adventures with us. This Sunday we embark on our honeymoon. Yea for us. We're spending 10 days in France (2 nights near Dijon and 7 nights in Provence), followed by 3 nights in Spain, near Girona. I figure someone in our vast network of blog readers must have been to one of these places. If so, we'd love to hear some highlights. Also, if you've biked up Mt. Ventoux and have a favorite route, we're all ears.

We'll be eating a lot of this

and drinking even more of that

and spending any remaining time doing a whole lot of this

Prizes for the best suggestions...

Well, as it happens, I own a copy of Cheese Primer by Steven Jenkins.

Per Jenkins the local cheeses you want to try in Provence are Banon and/or Saint-Marcellin (goats milk or cows milk cheeses wrapped in in chestnut leaves dipped in wine): look for dark leaves as its best aged; and the difficult to aquire Picodon de la Drome (a goats milk cheese aged in wine): should have a dark golden crust.

He doesn't mention Dijon.

I hope you guys have the trip of your life. :)

Sounds like a lot of fun.

About 9-10 years ago I wandered off to France on a whim. I ended up in Beaune, just a nice bike ride from Dijon, where I rented a bike and wandered around through Burgundy. I did pick up a copy of 'Oz Clarke's Wine Companion: Burgundy' at the time; probably a bit dated and more than you want to know about Burgundy wines, but you are welcome to borrow it if you desire.

Lucky you!! I am sooo envious. There is nothing better than french wine and french cheese. Just thinking about it makes my mouth water.

Sorry I can't provide any suggestions. Hopefully you will come back with lots of tips and information for all of us. I can't wait to read all about your trip. Bon voyage!

ps - where are the wedding photos?
