What we learned on our winter vacation...

During our final day of vacation in Jackson Hole, we learned several new things:

Snowboarding? Nope.

Sledding? Wrong again.

We freed the heel and took a telemark lesson in the hopes of one day being able to tackle the backcountry pow pow like pros. So, we look a little stiff here on day one, but come next winter, we're gonna be tearing it up.

We also learned that seared caribou makes for an exquisite dining experience. And finally, we learned to never, ever buy tickets through Orbitz. What a nightmare!

We also learned that beer is as good as $ at some Jackson ski rental shops. We were on the 'Beer Plan' for a day and a half of ski rental.

Bud bottles go a long way
on a cold snowy day.

I have never had Caribou, but a recent Elk dinner was one of the best dishes I have ever had.

what happened with orbitz?

i used to use them to buy, but now use them just to compare.

we had a 4:48pm flight out of jackson.

at noon we called united to check on its status. they had no record of us having ever booked a ticket.

so we called orbitz who said that they had changed our flight to something 1;30 earlier. i asked when/how we would be notified.

they said that we would be notified within 24 hours (i.e. the day AFTER the flight had departed).

we asked why our flight was changed and they said that united had changed flight times/flight #s earlier in the day and they had just found out.

we asked united the same question. they said that the original flight hadn't been running since the summer, so the change was made at least 5 months prior. united also said that orbize and travelocity are HUGE hassles when something goes wrong.

ugh! Don't fly orbitz. That's my unsolicited New Year's advide

That sounds hellish. Glad you made it home. Have to admit I'm a little bummed that they're so bad, because their TV ads (though cheesy) have included some really diverse representations of travelers (including a lesbian couple, though I only saw it once).

I had a bison burger once. Tasted like ground turkey. I'll keep an eye out for Caribou.
